The Claim Technican - Medical Malpractice position is responsible processing needed data entry and reporting of insurance claims data under the supervision of the Claim Manager. Basic understanding of policy structure and interpretation combined with the application of processes and procedures.


  • The Claim Technician will be mentored by his/her supervisor to gain a comfort level with handling all aspects of a policy, procedure and data application. The Technician will develop knowledge and skill in the concepts of professional liability and client relations while working in close contact with all members of the claims team.  
  • The Claim Technician will be reliable, have predictable attendance within client service hours for the performance of this position. Responsive to internal and external client needs.  Demonstrate the ability to clearly communicate verbally and/or in writing both internally and externally.  Ability to get along with others. 
  • The Claim Technician will be responsible for all data entry into the Claims System for all Client Programs. 
  • The Claim Technician will be responsible for pulling and preparing reports for client programs as assigned. 
  • The Claim Technician will be assigned other office functions as needed.


The Claim Technician will learn to:


  • Set up a claim file from the Notice of Claim utilizing VCM’s claims system, Trideo. Also work with other documents, such as loss runs, to reconcile our claims system.  
  • Monitor email inbox to prioritize potential exposure cases and work with the team to determine possible claims, trouble areas and escalation chart.  
  • Assist Compliance with reporting documentation to other carriers; including Excess, Reinsurance and other State and Federal agencies as instructed by Supervisor or Compliance.  
  • Assist in preparation of claims meetings, litigation management and data entry as needed.  
  • Create a high level of client satisfaction. Operate in a team environment. Support other team members to enhance overall team productivity.

 Education and/or Experience                                                                    

  • 2-year college degree, and/or professional insurance designations, and/or relevant experience preferred. 
  • Familiarity with insurance and legal principals preferred. Medical malpractice and general liability concepts knowledge a plus. 
  • Ability to work independently under tight deadlines and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.  
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite, general database experience, and Internet communication. 
  • Discretion and confidentiality required.

Proficient using Microsoft Office products such as: Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
