The Underwriter I is responsible for reviewing individual risks for assigned program to determine underwriting acceptability, approving, referring and rejecting risks based on authority and carrier policies, and guidelines. Also, reviews client property and casualty insurance policies in CAST for validity and data entry into policy management system (Visions). Performs updates to policies and policyholders in policy management system, inputs First Reports of Injuries (FROI’s) for select clients, enters class codes in Vision, runs reports for renewal of policies, accuracy of information and at request of internal/external clients. Work closely with underwriting team on various projects as needed.

Education and/or Experience
Associate degree or equivalent in work related experience in P & C insurance industry preferably CSR or underwriting position. Individual must be detail-oriented and a self-starter with strong organizational abilities, excellent written and oral communication skills and demonstrates a working knowledge of mathematics. This individual must have the ability to coordinate and prioritize and have flexibility, accuracy, initiative, and the ability to work with a minimum of direct supervision. Discretion and confidentiality required. The individual will demonstrate the ability to interact and participate effectively in the team environment, actively listen, confront issues and provide positive feedback to team members as well as internal and external customers, in a courteous and timely manner.
Proficient with Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.
