Position: Workers' Compensation Claim Representative I


Location: Okemos, MI
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM (Hybrid after initial training – up to 6 months in-office)
Salary: $61,000 - $68,000 annually
Account: Dedicated Workers’ Compensation Claim Desk – Michigan Jurisdiction

License Requirement:
A Michigan Workers' Compensation Adjuster License is preferred, but not required.

 

Note: Hybrid schedules may adjust based on performance and attendance.

 

The posted salary reflects CCMSI’s good-faith estimate of the base pay range for this role, in accordance with applicable pay transparency laws. Actual compensation will depend on qualifications, experience, and internal equity. Additional compensation may include bonuses, benefits, or other forms of pay. The Workers' Compensation Claim Representative I at CCMSI is responsible for investigating, evaluating, and managing workers' compensation claims from start to close for a dedicated Michigan jurisdiction account. This role involves ensuring timely and accurate claim handling, including the evaluation of medical bills, wage statements, and the administration of benefits in compliance with state regulations. The position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple files in a deadline-driven environment. While a Michigan Workers' Compensation Adjuster License is preferred, it is not required. The position offers hybrid work after an initial in-office training period.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate and evaluate workers' compensation claims for compensability, coverage, and appropriate benefit administration.

  • Establish and maintain reserves based on case facts and jurisdictional guidelines.

  • Communicate effectively with claimants, clients, medical providers, and legal counsel.

  • Review and process medical bills, wage statements, and other claim-related documents.

  • Issue timely and accurate payment of benefits in accordance with state regulations and company policies.

  • Document all file activity clearly and thoroughly in the claim management system.

  • Coordinate return-to-work efforts and monitor medical progress and treatment plans.

Qualifications

Nice to Have Skills or Experience:

  • Strong organizational skills, capable of managing multiple files in a deadline-driven environment.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Analytical thinking with sound judgment in evaluating claims and making decisions.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and claims management systems.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team setting.

  • High attention to detail and accuracy in documentation and benefit calculation.

  • Medical Terminology: Familiarity with medical terminology for accurate claims processing and communication with medical providers.

How Performance Is Measured:

  • Claim File Quality: Accuracy, timeliness, and completeness of documentation and file handling in accordance with company and client standards.

  • Timely Claim Resolution: Efficient claim management, including timely investigation, benefit delivery, and claim closure.

  • Compliance: Adherence to jurisdictional regulations, internal policies, and client-specific requirements.

  • Customer Service: Professional communication with claimants, clients, providers, and internal team members.

  • Productivity: Volume of claims managed, tasks completed within established deadlines, and ability to stay current with workload.

  • Team Collaboration: Support team objectives, participate in meetings/trainings, and contribute to a positive work environment.

Education & Experience:

  • 3 or more years of workers' compensation claims experience, or equivalent industry experience, is preferred.

  • An Associate’s degree is preferred but not required. 

Computer Skills:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
