Location: Danville, IL - Hybrid schedule after initial training period (2-3 days in-office per week)
Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm (37.5 hours/week)
Salary Range: $45,000 - $60,000
Licensing: Producer’s License preferred but not required. Licenses from Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Iowa, Mississippi, or Louisiana are ideal, but any state or reciprocal license is welcome.
Education: Associate’s degree with relevant work experience or a Bachelor’s degree

Job Summary

As an Underwriter II, you’ll independently review individual risks for assigned programs, approve, refer, or reject submissions, and provide underwriting support across multiple lines of business. You’ll also assist with policy maintenance, client communications, and team projects.

 

This is a hybrid role following an initial in-office training period (up to 6 months). After training, you’ll typically work 2–3 days in the office per week.

 

Please note: This role is designed for candidates who already have underwriting experience and are ready to take the next step in their career. It is not an entry-level position. This role is part of a defined career path, with promotion opportunities based on performance, experience, and continued growth.

Responsibilities

 

What You’ll Do

  • Review new and renewal business for acceptability, quality, and profitability within authority levels; refer outside items to management/carrier.

  • Market, support, and promote underwriting policies and objectives to agents, boards, and clients.

  • Provide timely, courteous, and efficient service to both internal and external stakeholders.

  • Enter and update policies and client information in underwriting systems (Visions, iCE, CAST).

  • Generate reports for renewals, audits, and client requests; ensure accuracy of information.

  • Provide policy maintenance (changes to names, addresses, terminations, job codes, locations, etc.).

  • Communicate with carriers, brokers, account managers, claim adjusters, and customer service staff.

  • Participate in client reviews, presentations, and educational sessions as needed.

  • Collaborate with the underwriting team on special projects and quarterly reviews.

Qualifications

 

What You’ll Bring

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of education and underwriting experience

  • 1+ year of prior underwriting experience (multi-line preferred)

  • Strong knowledge of insurance concepts and underwriting principles

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including comfort speaking in group settings

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel

  • Strong organizational skills, analytical thinking, and problem-solving ability

Nice to Have:

  • Prior multi-line underwriting experience

  • Ability to interpret policy documents and apply underwriting standards

  • Progress toward professional insurance designations (AU, ARM, CPCU)

Compensation & Compliance

The posted wage reflects CCMSI’s good-faith estimate in accordance with applicable pay transparency laws. Actual pay will be based on experience, qualifications, and internal equity. This role may also be eligible for additional compensation or bonuses.
